What is Farm Day?
Farm Day is an accredited “hands-on” educational program that is recognized locally and nationally in the Agriculture industry. Through our three annual Farm Day events, we are able to reach approximately 6,500 students and 1,300 adults from 250 classes and home school groups each year. We are proud to have our Farm Day Experiences be so highly respected by agriculturists and educators alike.

TEACHERS

How do I sign up my class for Farm Day?
To sign up, each teacher must fill out a class registration form. You can complete the application online, or you can download a form and fax or mail it in.
Who pays for Farm Day?
The Farm Day Experience is fully funded by Monterey County Agricultural Education (MCAE). Events are 100% staffed with community volunteers. School districts are reimbursed for their event transportation expenses. The only obligation of the schools is to encourage the willing participation of all third-grade teachers.

VOLUNTEERS

What do Volunteer Guides do?
Volunteer Guides are absolutely essential to the success of our Farm Day events. Guides greet classes as they get off the bus and then take their assigned group of students to two timed events and as many other static presentations as possible.
Volunteer Guides should be available from 7:00am – 1:00pm. After your morning training session and assigned tour (which lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes), you’re invited to join us for a delicious BBQ lunch.
No experience is required, and you don’t even have to work in the agriculture industry. We’ll provide everything you need. Basically, if you’re capable of holding a clipboard and saying, “Follow me,” then you are qualified to be a Volunteer Guide at Farm Day!
FUN FACT: Many of our Volunteer Guides say they have just as much fun learning about Ag as the kids do!

PRESENTERS

Why are Presenters so important?
Your presentation will help these eager young minds to grow up with a better and more positive understanding of Ag. You are helping us make friends for Agriculture!
By providing a personal connection to Agriculture, our Presenters are vitally important to the Farm Day experience—and to the future of our industry. We truly appreciate all the time and effort you give us.
What should a Presentation include?
Your presentation can include any aspect of our local Ag industry: commodities, animals, equipment, production, processing, economics, nutrition, safety, etc.
Your target audience is children in third grade (ages 7-8 years old). Keep your presentation very basic, but share fun details that kids might find interesting. As much as possible, use the senses (touch, smell, sight, sound, and/or taste). And remember—to a third grader, "gross" is good!
If you need some help getting started or have any questions, we are always available to help. If you are a new Presenter, please share your proposed Presentation with the Farm Day Coordinator for Board review and approval.
Please contact Farm Day Coordinator Candi DePauw at 831-905-3669 or candi@razzolink.com.
